I was about 10 years old, when I got my first sled, a Yamaha Ovation 340! Tearing up my family's farmlands, it wasn't long before I was learning to side hill in the mountains with my newly attached mountain bars, which I welded on myself. I was living the dream on that custom 340.
Loving the adrenalin, I continued to ride and progress through the years in both backcountry and drag racing. In 2007, I started racing Hillcross and Snocross. In 2012 I completed my first hillclimb with RMSHA, (Rocky Mountain States Hillclimb Association) a professional snowmobile hillclimb organization that is ran throughout the USA (www.rmsha.net). I become a member of the pro division every year since 2013 and have qualified for the Jackson Hole World Championship Hillclimb three years in a row.
It has always been the thing that brings the most joy to me. When you are riding, it's like nothing else matters, but waiting for that light to turn green, where to shave time, what line to take, what holes to miss and most importantly, how to beat the clock. I love the adrenalin and the people I have met in the RMSHA circuit. It's a tough sport and it wouldn't be possible without the support from everyone and my sponsors.
I plan to continue racing for the long term. It's what drives me to work hard in my heavy equipment construction company, Irontek Land Developments, in Calgary, Alberta. Sledding has always been and will be my passion. There's just nothing like that feeling that sledding gives you, whether you're behind the handlebars or in the trailer just hanging out with those who share the same passion. - Daine Elliott, #99C.
